Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • Identify job requirements from specifications
       
Element: Develop and lay out flat back wood patterns
  • Determine type of wood pattern required through application of moulding or casting techniques and foundry processes
  • Select timber or timber composites to meet specifications
  • Calculate pattern parameters based on specifications
  • Lay out pattern to specifications, showing tapers, machining allowances, core prints and method of construction
  • Develop and manufacture jigs or fixtures that aid wood pattern manufacture as required

  • Produce pattern or pattern component parts to size and shape using wood patternmaking techniques, tools, equipment and procedures

Assessment Tasks

Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
